Adoption update!!!

Major update received from our adoption agency today! The potential birth parents loved our profile & have chosen us, yet there's a minor catch. The birth father is Native American, when adopting a child that is of Native American decent you can have parental rights awarded to you by a judge ten days after the birth of the child. However with the Indian Welfare Child Act Regulations (IWCA) the birth parents have to be present in court with you & they must state to the judge that they are relinquishing parental rights to us. This shouldn't be a problem for us, yet the birth fathers mother may want to adopt the child. She would have first choice due to the IWCA regulations. Our social worker is going to talk with the mother to assess the extra risk of her objecting to the adoption. So we should know more in a couple of days.

The timing of this is quite interesting, Adam's grandma passed last night (R.I.P. Alice). He was able to fly home (to Oregon) and see her yesterday before her passing (what a blessing). With the timing of her passing happening at the same time of our adoption updates, it has me pondering the idea that Alice may have some spiritual connection with our adoption. Who knows, she may be a guardian angel here~ time will tell.

Will keep the updates coming~ stay tuned!
