The next best thing since sliced bread! Hemming jeans while maintaining the original hem.

I've had difficulties finding jeans with a 28" inseam my entire life. I've purchased jeans in the past & took them to a seamstress, the crummy part was the obvious hem @ the bottom that wasn't pleasing to the eye! Keep in mind that I'm a novice sewer, however I hemmed my first pair of jeans last night while maintaining the original hem! Here's how I did it~

1) Measure the inseam that you desire. Turn the jeans up to only half of the new length that you desire, don't count the original hem. For example, I wanted a 28" inseam, I had 3.75 inches of extra material, so I turned my jeans to 1.9" (give or take a wee bit), pin this & press the edge with a hot iron.

2) Attach the zipper foot to your sewing machine & sew as close to the original hem line. Be sure to back stitch @ your ends (& on the inseam/outer seam).

3) Once you have sewn around the hem, you can either trim the excess jean material (as I did) or you can leave it in place for hemming @ a later time (shorter/longer).

4) Unfold jeans so you see the original hem and press with an iron. Congrats, you're finished!
