Chaos~

We've added a little chaos to our family & household, I'm pleased to introduce our latest addition Walter.

March 25th started as an emotional day for me as it was the anniversary of my grandma's passing. While her passing is a day to celebrate her life, it continues to remind me of how much I truly miss her. While on my way to work @ 0605 I saw a little black dog dart across Speedway Blvd (which is a very busy main street in Tucson). I noticed two cars in front of me slowing down & then stop. There was a large white truck stopped in the turn lane in the opposite direction. I then noticed the dog under his truck, my first instinct was "Why God, why did I have to see this (of all days) today?" He was merely looking for safety & didn't appear to have been hit. I parked my car to block traffic in the fast lane as I wanted cars to slow down in case he decided to bolt through traffic. I immediately got down on his level & attempted to calm him, as soon as I started to pet him he began to shake & peed. The look on his little face broke my heart, he looked so lost. I noticed that he must belong to someone as he has a beautiful shiny coat & some weight on him. I attempted to pick him up to place him in my car to take him the a vet to see if he had a micro chip. When I placed my hands around him he snarled & growled @ me. I didn't want to take it any further as I was wearing a tank top & if I was going to be bit I would have rather had sleeves on. Two cops stopped & stopped traffic to see if we could scare the little guy back to the side of the street that he came from. Needless to say it didn't spook him, they then called Pima Animal Control. The little dog jumped into the large white truck who had stopped earlier. I took his photo with the thought of posting it on Craigslist (see the photo above). I had called the emergency vet to see if I could take him there to see if he had a micro chip & if they would be able to take him to the Humane Society once they opened. They unfortunately wouldn't be able to transport him & I had no way of waiting until 11:00 when the Humane Society opened. Since the little guy was safe in the guys truck & animal control was on their way for him I decided to mosey into work (I had called earlier to notify them that I would be late). My last words to the little guy were, "Good luck on your journey." Little did I know that his journey meant coming back into my life. Once I was in my car I immediately started to cry, my biggest fear was the little guy would be put to sleep if his owners didn't find him. I called Adam (who was @ home) & told him of my morning. Adam (being the amazing husband that he is) posted the photo & where I found the pup on Craigslist for me. I was able to get off work a little early & made lost dog signs. My mom helped me hang them & we went door to door in a couple of surrounding neighborhoods where I found little guy. I posted on Facebook & found a page on Facebook for lost & found animals of Pima County. I took signs to veterinary clinics & the two emergency clinics.

Pima Animal Clinic held him for 7 days as he had been micro chipped, however the owners never registered him. Adam & I went to PAA on the 27th & placed a hold on our little guy, with the intent of adopting him if his owners hadn't claimed him. He was so fearful in the kennel, he sat curled up in the corner & wouldn't come to the gate for me to pet him. He was shaking & it broke my heart in pieces. Needless to say I cried & cried. I told him that I was doing everything to adopt him if his owners didn't come for him.

We were suppose to pick him up on April 2nd, however PAA's vet had to evaluate him to ensure that he was healthy & wasn't aggressive. I was so disappointed as the vet didn't evaluate, we were told the following day he would be evaluated. Again, phone call after phone call on our end & we were told the vet wasn't able to evaluate him. Thursday night around 2030 (8:30 pm) we received a call from PAA stating that someone from the clinic had seen our little guy & they found something wrong with his eye but couldn't go into detail of what they found as the vet needed to see him. Adam & I discussed & came to the conclusion that we would adopt him regardless of his condition (whatever it may be). Friday was the same, phone call after phone call on our end & the vet still hadn't seen him. I was so frustrated & asked if I was able to bring him home without being seen by the vet. They stated that they would release him to me if I took him to our veterinary clinic by Wednesday. I of course said yes & immediately left work. I came across two amazing elderly volunteers & they helped me find our little guy. As soon as I saw him I started to bawl, I couldn't keep my emotions in check. He came over to me & laid on his back exposing his belly to me. We instantly bonded & I knew he was meant to be in my life. The vet ended up seeing him just prior to my arrival @ PAA & they stated that they didn't see anything wrong with his eyes.

We introduced him to Meaty & Otto yesterday as Adam worked Saturday & I wanted him to be nearby in case a fight occurred. The intro went smoothly & Walter is now part of the pack!

Walter's first night @ home~
Walter LOVES cuddling, being covered with blankets, belly rubs & being close to his new mommy. The first thing I did once we were home was register his micro chip in our name! I found out that Walter was born in 2011 in a litter of 8 puppies. He was neutered & adopted out to a family back in 2011 & went by the name of Benjamin. I believe his name had been changed as when I call "Benjamin" there's no response...

Walter's car ride home~
This may sound silly, although I wonder if my grandma had something to do with Walter & my meeting.
Walter sleeping comfortably on the couch~

Walter & I at PAA, shortly after we met again.

Walter in Pima Animal Controls truck~ poor little guy!

Here's a little blurb from Pima Animal Controls Facebook page, it was written by one of the volunteers that I met.

SUN BEAR! This young lady rescued Sun Bear from a busy street on her way to work one morning. She knocked on doors in the neighborhood where she found him, but no one claimed him. So she brought him to the shelter and today, she saved him for a second time. This is such a great adopter that Jim and I plan on coming back as dogs and looking for her to adopt US! This little boy will have a really special home!
